Protein

Protein is the basic building block in the human body. Every cell in your body contains protein. Hormones, antibodies, and enzymes are all made from proteins.
If we don't eat enough protein, we can lose muscle mass (including in our heart muscle), we may not grow or heal very well, our immune system may not function very well, we can have respiratory problems, and we can even die.
A protein is a chain of amino acids held together with peptide bonds (which is why I laugh when I hear about products with special amino acid peptide ingredients; it's just a fancy way of saying protein). Your body breaks down the chain into the smaller amino acids when it digests the protein. The amino acid molecules are absorbed into the blood stream and are used to build tissue.
