Calorie Burning Calculators
If you want to figure out how many calories you burn doing an activity or how many minutes you need to do an activity to burn a certain number of calories, then check out the Weight Loss Profile Calculator or visit NATS Energy Calculator.
The Bigger You Are, The More You Burn!
This is one of the benefits to being heavy, you burn more calories. This means it's actually easier to burn calories when you're fat.
If I wanted to burn 100 calories by walking when I was 200 lbs. I would only need to walk for about 18 minutes. If I wanted to burn 100 calories by walking when I'm at my goal weight of 120 lbs. I would need to walk about 29 minutes.
Does that mean that I need to do the extra 10 minutes of exercise? That depends. If I didn't want to lose any more weight, I wouldn't need to burn more calories than I was eating. I would only need to burn the same number of calories that I was eating, so I could exercise less if my diet remained the same. If I wanted to eat more, though, I would definitely have to increase my activity level.
Burning Off The Last 10 lbs. and Plateaus
Since you burn less as you lose weight, those last 10 or 20 lbs. seem the hardest to lose. This is also a reason why you plateau; you've reached a point at which you just aren't burning enough anymore in your current exercise program to continue losing weight.
If you are determined to get that last bit of extra weight off or break through your plateau, you're going to have to increase your metabolism by doing more activity. You can increase the amount of time you exercise. You can also increase the intensity of your workout.
There is a shortcut though, muscle building. The more muscle you have, the higher your metabolism is even when you're sleeping.
