Letting Go of Judgment
Updated on July 28, 2007
To deal with my perfectionism and inner critic, I needed to learn to stop judging myself and others.
Why I Judge
I judge people and myself because it makes me feel superior and reinforces my subconscious belief that there is such a thing as perfection, the ideal.
How I Judge Myself
I judge myself based on my shoulds and measure up as a failure. I am afraid others will judge me the same way, so I avoid getting into situation that I believe will result in my being judged, such as:
-
completing a project
-
meeting / spending time with people
-
being my true self
-
sharing my accomplishments and failures
-
asking for what I want until I have no choice
In Reality...
Everybody makes decisions based on the resources available to them at the time to meet their most important needs at the time, so nobody is to blame. It's not their fault that they lacked sufficient resources, nor is it anyone else's.
