Emergencies
Updated October 19, 2007
Every person should be prepared for emergencies. In our everyday lives, we can go to the grocery store, make purchases with debit cards, cook our dinner in our microwaves and gas stoves, put our leftovers in the refrigerator or freezer, take a nice hot bath to relax, catch a little evening television, and go to bed in our heated homes, knowing that if we have an emergency we can use our telephones to call 911. When there is an major emergency, though, all of those comforts, conveniences, and necessities are stripped away. Experience teaches us that the best way to survive any situation is to be prepared, and the same is true for maintaining comforts.
The following lists are things you need to maintain comfort and survival in many situations. First and foremost, get to know your neighbors. You'll be happy you took time to become friends (or at least amicable) before an emergency. You never know when you'll need them to save the day. The following kits are things you absolutely need (e.g. evacuation kit, car kit, etc.). The following supply lists are things you should try to have EASY ACCESS to in your home at all times (just keep collecting as much as you can afford when you can afford it).
